Simply delightful. Had the rib eye steak, and you know it’s going to be good if the one thing they make is only the Rib Eye. You choose your steak size, they go off and cut it and show you the steak before cooking. Cool experience. The price could seem intimidating at first, but they generally advised for 300g+ per person. We opted for 700gram between the two of us, and it was a good portion size for us ( i wouldn’t mind going for another steak though). Paired with the bone marrow which was delicious, and salad and fries as a side for the steak. Like I said, simply delightful. Must visit this restaurant if you’re in the mood for good steak.
I came in alone and sat at the bar bench. The atmosphere of Vice was great, a lot of thought was put into the decorations. The music was not too loud. Service was great as well. The food was just okay. I ordered their toasted bone marrow and a cheese burger. The toasted bone marrow is a fun idea, however, they likely ran into the same issue as I constantly do. There were little to no marrow in it. It was not a satisfying starter as I did not get the rich taste of marrow at all. I often purchase marrow bones just to bake them up and realise there is little to no marrow in it. The burger was awesome, except with one major issue. Burnt. The patty had a burnt aftertaste despite being soft. The grill they used was obviously way too hot. For a $26 burger, I think some fries on the side would have been nice. If the patty was not burnt, I would have given 4 stars. It can be a perfect burger, but that is still $26, which gets you a burger meal in most bistros. I may come back in the future for their signature rib eye on the bone. That is the house specialty. The total was $46, I left still feeling hungry.
Saltiest steak we’ve ever had. Nothing special on the 50mins wait on steak, which would’ve been amazing if it was indeed great. We were looking forward to this restaurant taking pride on their “incredible steak”. Unfortunately it didn’t make it. We did let them know and there was no apologies apart from just letting us know they will pass it on to the kitchen and that was it and just continued clearing our table. We still had to finish the chips as we were still left hungry. During and after meal there was no checks on our experience to know how was it that could’ve rectified the issue if they wanted as we left some of the steak uneaten. We did say we couldn’t eat anymore as it gets saltier and saltier as it cools down. Super salty and we’re filipinos (who are quite used on eating salty dishes, funny enough) Toilets also don’t have toilet papers and hand dryer not working. Definitely not coming back as you can find a lot of better places in Canberra for steak and wine at $305.
If indulgence is a sin, I’ll happily repent at Vice. Tucked away in Odgers Lane, Vice is Canberra’s newest hidden gem and honestly, one of the best steak experiences I’ve had in the capital (and I’ve had a few). The Stone Axe wagyu rib eye was cooked to perfection; tender, smoky, and full of flavour. The toasted bone marrow? I could’ve eaten ten more. And those duck fat potatoes? Divine! The space is moody and intimate; perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, or when you just need to spoil yourself. Service was impeccable, cocktails on point, and everything hit the mark. Special shout-out to Jarrod for the flawless service, absolute star. Disclaimer: I was invited to dine, but this review is entirely honest, that steak truly speaks for itself.
Booked a last minute date night and we had a fantastic time! We were served by Jess who was so attentive and chatty - fantastic customer service! The dirty martini was gorgeous as was the Côte du Rhône we shared, paired perfectly with the steak! The food was beautiful also! We shared the bone marrow to start… stunning! Then had 1.2kg of the steak with the duck fat potatoes and broccolini and mustard tasting tray - absolute perfection! Then we couldn’t resist having the vanilla flan at the end which was incredibly delicious! Honestly we can’t wait to come back!
