My family took me here last night for my birthday. The food was amazing, the service - second to none. They were very attentive, nothing was a problem. The atmosphere intimate and cosy. Loved the night, had the best time. Thank you to you all. Diana Clayton ๐
It would be a good idea to let patrons know what isn't available on the already limited menu before they go up to order! I chose chicken schnitzel as there wasn't really anything else I liked. Maybe instead of duck breast, you could have chicken breast? My plate was half filled with cold chips with a few veggies hidden under the over-cooked schnitzel. Hubby got the bangers and mash and that's all you get - 2 sausages sitting on top of the mash. Seriously, can't you throw on a couple of veggies? Not great, for the price. Table service not very good. We had to clear our own finished plates and put them on an empty table next to us. Table water wasn't topped up. A shame because it's a really nice place with a lovely dining area out the back. Wouldn't bother going back.
The food here is fantastic, some of the best in the Illawarra. Highlight for me was the black angus with potato galette is to die for, and the rotating fish selection is always a good choice. The atmosphere could almost be described as 'cosy' if only they closed the front door...and had more trinkets hanging on the walls to help dull the deafening noise just a little. As for the service....well, it could probably best be described as standard Illawarra. The wait staff that are actually there (the bare minimum possible) can best be described as friendly apathetic. First visit, three staff were busy discussing fantasy football teams for easily 15 minutes straight, and had to be approached personally in order to get served - unfortunately, waving an empty glass in the air for 10 minutes isn't obvious enough. On both of my most recent visits, one waiter was more interested in chatting with the chef than clearing empty glasses and plates. It's a shame really this, and a few other regional regional restaurants, really are on the verge of greatness, if only they could get some decent staff! If you're even slightly tight for time, DO NOT come to this restaurant. If you honestly don't give a toss about good service, the food is great here. However, in my opinion, the quality of the food isn't high enough to offset the cost of the whole experience.
This place is a gem! Our group of 3 enjoyed a lovely Friday lunch here. Great menu with plenty of options, including gluten-free, vegetarian & vegan. Good drink selection - had a very tasty Gewurztraminer from WA! Unfortunately, as the designated driver, didn't get to sample anything from the cocktail menu (next time!). Fantastic, comfortable atmosphere. Add in the friendly and attentive service, and a return visit is guaranteed! Recommend! ๐๐ป
If youโre looking for a degustation and wine tasting experience that truly delivers, look no further than The Iron Yampie in Port Kembla. We recently attended their maritime-inspired degustation, and it was nothing short of exceptional. The evening was centered around six expertly chosen wines, all hailing from maritime Australian climatesโthink Margaret River, Tasmania, the Limestone Coast, and McLaren Vale. The sommelier was nothing short of brilliant, offering fascinating insights into how the coastal environment shapes the wines and why certain grape varieties thrive in these regions. It wasnโt just a tastingโit was an education, delivered with warmth, enthusiasm and very good humour. Each wine was perfectly paired with custom-created dishes, all designed to complement the maritime influence without being overwhelmingly seafood-focused. The philosophy of โwhat grows together, goes togetherโ was at the heart of every course, and it showed in the impeccable balance of flavors. The attention to detail in both the food and the storytelling behind it made for an immersive and indulgent experience. Generosity was the theme of the nightโnot just in hospitality, but in the very generous pours. This is an event where youโll want to book an Uber and take the next day off workโtrust me on that one! Special mention to Spencer, whose friends call him Bertie (sorry mate, I was rather jovial by that stage of the night). The Iron Yampie has created something truly special with this degustation. If you appreciate fantastic food, exceptional wine, and a deep dive into the way climate shapes whatโs in your glass, this is an experience you absolutely need to try. Support this fantastic local businessโyou wonโt regret it!
