The food is authentic! I ordered a Thick soup broth ramen. The soft boiled egg is so delicious, the egg yolk is very soft jelly, not over cooked. The best part is the chashu, itโs a thick cut, fat in between the lean meat. The lean pork is very tender and the fat melts in your mouth, yummy ๐! The staff is very friendly and polite, the environment is very clean and chill. Highly recommend Ramen Aokโs ๐๐ป
Came down here on a Saturday for lunch and reminiscing the ramen flavours of Japan. First impression is that it does feel like a Japanese run restaurant and the atmosphere reflects that, you can order via the counter or the QR code and thereโs a merchant fee whilst ordering online. Food does take a while to come out but it is well worth it. We got the thick broth ramen and the original chicken broth ramen with extra noodles and topics. The extra noodle is served warm however the extra toppings are served cold. My first initial taste of the ramen is that the flavours of chicken are strong and salty, the noodles were definitely machine made not hand made and thereโs a chew to it. It absorbs the broth well so the strong broth flavours is well justified. The bowl does get served hot but somehow if it cools down real quick as I like my ramen hot. The ramen does remind us of Japan though lacking the lovely chicken flavour that only fresh chicken provides. This is not a knock on their effort, I have yet to try a decent chicken broth for ramen in Australia. Indo have to say the Charsiu is up there with the best and beats some some of them from Japan. The fat is soft and doesnโt fall apart in the broth however melts in your mouth with gentle pressure. Soy sauce egg is in the salty side if you have it alone but with the broth and noodles, it makes sense. Ganbade!!
Came here for lunch and tried both variations of the chicken shio ramen. The signature bowl uses a clear salt based chicken broth which very mild and clean tasting but flavour was a bit one dimensional. On the other hand, the one with the thicker broth was rich, savoury and garlicky but not too greasy. Noodles were good; they were thin straight cuts, not too soft but would be better if they were slightly more firm. The pork belly chashu was tender and fatty with a nice charred flavour; and the marinated egg was tasty. Staffs were friendly and the service was quick.
Saturday Lunch visited - average $23 pp In my opinion, the best Karaage I've ever had in Melbourne. You have no idea how big it was by seen in the pic it was huuuge. It's well seasoned and beautifully fried. Basic tori paitan Ramen - yes, it was good as well but a bit salty for me but another ones soup was more mild taste. *So tricky - the price I found on the website and the menu was not matched. They should update the paper menu or thought that they should've warned us. Overall close to five star but I left four.
๐@ramenakosfitzroy, Fitzroy We have recently visited Ramen Ako's in Fitzroy and were super impressed by the quality of both their ramen and fried chicken ๐ Their menu is very small with only 3 options of ramen, a couple of sides and drinks. We ordered the 2 versions of their chicken shio ramen and they were super flavourful, their broth is really good and even better with some chilli oil paste ๐๐ป Their fried chicken needs a special mention because the pieces were huge, super crispy and the chicken itself is very juicy. Definitely a must-try when you visit them for ramen ๐คค What we ordered: ๐ฅ Akoโs Signature Chicken Shio Ramen $20.5 ๐ Chicken Shio Ramen with Thicker Soup Broth $21.5 + Extra Noodles $2 + Home-made Chilli Oil Paste $2.5 ๐ค Prawn Gyoza $9 ๐ Chicken Karaage $13.5 ๐ป Sapporo Tap Craft Beer $11
