THE BEST sausage rolls Iโve eaten in Australia and Iโm super fussy! Handmade layer upon layer of French pastry, ratio of pastry to filling is perfect. I had the chicken and leek - TO DIE FOR Sorry no photo I ate it too fast!
We stopped by Lilyโs early Sunday morning on the way home from a remote country wedding. I have been shouting praise for this gorgeous cafe ever since. We were met by the sight and smell of fresh pastries and bread, and then by the head man, Bruce, who explained the cafeโs unique situation. Nearly everything in store made on site and from their local farm (even the bees wax that line the canelรฉ moulds)! We left with bags of jams, sauces, fresh pasta, bread and pastries. I WISH we lived closer, as I would be there every morning for my daily cuppa. Thank you Bruce and your lovely team!
We got a delicious loaf of organic olive and herb sourdough today that was packed full of yummy, salty olives. Was awesome slathered with butter and dunked into hot pumpkin soup for tea. My only qualm was that it it didn't come pre-sliced, as I cut my finger trying to slice it myself!
The food scene in the High Country Hamlets is exploding with delicious creations, and Lilyโs Artisan are one of the latest to join the growing list of producers. Located in Crowโs Nest, theyโre offering up freshly baked breads, pasta, condiments, pastries and coffee. We couldnโt go past the passionfruit choux pastries made using chocolate from Metiisto chocolate, or the raspberry vanilla bean tarts topped with plump locally sourced heritage raspberries. If youโre based in Toowoomba, itโs well worth the drive.
I was lucky to grab a jar of their queen garnet plum jam at the Toowoomba Saturday markets which was incredible. Have been able to make it in store and try their pastries, of which the pear frangipane tart is easily the best frangipane tarts Iโve had, with one of the best textured short crust pastries Iโve had the delight of eating. All in all a huge fan and canโt wait to bring friends along to share more pastries.
