Travelled from Sydney to Adelaide and was excited to try this cafe, it absolutely lived up to the hype. Hands down some of the best coffee I’ve had - the flat white was amazing. The food was also excellent and very reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Highly recommend.

A new favourite breaky spot! Haven’t been to exchange in a couple years but god it was good. Fast prompt service to get us seated. Only downfall is the continuous nagging to get us to order. It took us about 2 minutes to sit down and for them to ask if we were ready to order. This happened a couple times and also saw a table nearby get visibly annoyed at the same issue. Let us actually read the menu team. Food was awesome, we both got a serve of eggs and a side of the famous potatoes and dip. Gosh that sauce was mouth watering. Eggs on both plates were extremely delicious and as I said in a previous breakfast review the bread! God, so simple but easy to give us a good serve of bread with eggs and sides. Everything was perfect and continuous rotation of water was great too. Thanks team for the great hospitality and food.

Despite the rain this morning, it didn’t stop me from wanting a nice, filling breakfast. I went to Exchange Coffee for a feed, hoping to enjoy a slow, peaceful morning. Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be the opposite. When I arrived, a staff member seated me, and I still had my AirPods in, soaking in some lo-fi with the morning rain. Within a minute, an Asian lady with glasses (believe she’s Singaporean) came over and asked if I’d like to start with a coffee. I didn’t mind — that’s pretty standard at most cafés. (Just to be clear, this isn’t a racist comment — I’m Asian myself.) After ordering my coffee, I started looking through the menu, trying to decide what to have. Barely two minutes later, the same lady came back and asked, “Are you ready for food?” I found that a bit pushy, especially since I was scrolling through their social media and Google reviews for reference photos. The café wasn’t even busy — plenty of empty tables — so there was no need to rush. She then commented, “The photos are sometimes not accurate,” which threw me off a bit. I told her I needed more time to decide. Fast forward to when I finished eating — as soon as I took my last bite, she swooped in and took the plate away without saying a word. The plate was still right in front of me, which made it feel abrupt and intrusive. If I had pushed it aside, sure — take it. But not when it’s right in front of me and I’ve literally just finished. Just poor customer experience and rude imo. Unfortunately, that interaction really ruined the overall experience for me. I noticed this same waitress rushing around the café, cleaning and collecting things as if she was in a race. It made the whole atmosphere feel tense and pressured, which isn’t ideal for 8 a.m. when you’re just trying to ease into the morning.

One of my favourite breakfasts in Adelaide. Duck Benedict was incredible, nice to have something different. Really strong all day breakfast menu. Blueberry crumble croissant was spectacular. Very attentive service and kind staff. Will be adding to my list of faves.

I’ve visited Exchange several times, and it’s a place I always enjoy bringing friends or visitors. The coffee is consistently excellent, and this time I decided to try something new — the tonic espresso — which was a refreshing and delightful surprise. For food, I went with the Confit Duck Benedict on a friend’s recommendation, and I couldn’t have been happier. It was rich, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The space itself is clean, welcoming, and has a great atmosphere. The only thing holding me back from giving five stars is the service. It can sometimes feel a little unfriendly, which takes away from the overall experience. With warmer customer service, this place would be perfect.
